Our story:
The yellow brick house at the corner of Seventh and Wood Streets in Clarion, PA, has been a local landmark for over a century. Built in 1911, the house remained in the same family until 1963 when it was purchased to be a home for the Theta Chi fraternity of Clarion State College (now Clarion University of Pennsylvania) as one of the first fraternity houses at the college. Over the next forty years, the house began to show the effects of fraternity life.
But... The basic structure was sound, the roof was relatively new, and enough of the distinctive features remained to convince the Fulmers that the house should be saved and that restoration was doable. They had discussed the possibility of opening a used book store and decided the location and building were ideal for that purpose. With the entire house at their disposal, they expanded their plans to include antiques and collectibles, and a bargain basement.
After six months of repair and restoration, Fulmer House Books and Collectibles opened for business on May 5, 2006. The first floor is about half books and half antiques, with comfortable chairs and tables for visitors to browse the collection. The bargain basement holds a variety of items geared toward the student population with inexpensive furniture and household necessities to help in furnishing apartments and dorm rooms. One room on the second floor contains a variety of military memorabilia, coins, and more books while another holds kitchenalia. A third displays linens, sewing items, and selected toys. And of course there are more books....
